Siberian Black Ice Race 2012
mSE Solutions is supporting the German team in the world’s coldest race
The Siberian Black Ice Race will take place in March 2012, taking the teams across the length of Siberia’s Lake Baikal. The German team will face a 610 km marathon at temperatures as low as -50°C. The course is open to snowkiters, mountain bikers, cross-country skiers, runners, hikers and ice-skaters, giving the choice of strategy an entirely new dimension. The race will be a unique challenge for all participants – in one of the world’s most beautiful and equally dangerous landscapes.
“The Siberian Black Ice Race is a challenge that can break the toughest of the tough.”
Michael Snehotta hopes to encourage other cancer suffers never to give up their fight against the disease as an ambassador for German Cancer Aid. Snehotta beat cancer and has since gone on to face the world’s toughest extreme sports challenges. 33-year-old Tobias Altmann also has a personal marathon behind him – just a few years ago, he was a seriously overweight chain smoker. He is now an enthusiastic marathon runner en route to becoming an extreme athlete, and plans to meet this huge challenge head-on. “In my eyes, every kilometre we put behind us, every step we make is a victory. Every time we beat the thought of giving up is a victory.” The third man in the group is 28-year-old Dominik Luksch from Ansbach. The professional salesman and fitness trainer ran his first extreme race in Canada in the Yukon Arctic Ultra. The three extreme athletes want to test the limits of their physical and mental endurance.
They are currently looking forward to every degree of cold, as the colder it is here, the better they can prepare for the actual conditions of the Siberian Black Ice Race.
